Stroud Cotswold Sheep

I have painted Stroud within the fleece of a Cotswold Sheep. Introduced by the Romans, this breed of sheep is of key historical importance to the area. Many towns owe their growth to the fine quality of wool that was exported worldwide. In the 16th century, weaving was concentrated to the Stroud area as it had fast flowing streams to power the newly built mills. The Cotswold sheep is now a protected rare breed.
